Welcome to the home page of “The Six Pack”!
Over the next months (or years!?), you'll be following the Around The World (ATW) adventures of six beer lovin ' flight simmers, all trying to (against all odds) overcome bad weather, time zones, crazy air traffic controllers and muddy runways, as they go from continent to continent in search of… the perfect beer!!
Of course, there's nothing original in starting an ATW. It's been done before, actually by some members of “The Six Pack”. But this feat remains rare. In real life, very few pilots have achieved it ( www.earthrounders.com ) in GA aircrafts, and it's the same in the vast flight simming community. Just visit our links section to see some of them. ATW's are often begun, but seldom completed.
This project brings together a somewhat “dysfunctional” group of pilots: two Quebecers (a nationalist and a federalist!), a crazy Irishman now living in the mountains of Switzerland , an IT specialist from Germany , a soon to be real-life pilot from Pennsylvania , and a university student from Prague . All are members of the great VA Livewire Airlines ( www.livewireairlines.com ).
Strong believers that beer is the one true thing that can bring mankind together, members of “The Six Pack” intend to tour the world to spread the “good word”. No doubt that you'll make some interesting finds yourself!
Not only “educational”, this web site will contain twists, tales and drama in the commented logbook section. We all enter this adventure with good (or bad) intentions, and you'll soon be caught in following the weekly adventures of “The Six Pack”.
We intend to make this project contagious. That's why we will make available complete flight files for the 6 different airplanes we are using. Interested simmers will not only be able to read about our adventures, but follow them leg by leg. We will also try to include for each destination: available freeware and payware add-on's , information about the visited destinations and airports, charts, etc. Feel free to jump in your favourite plane and follow us! Our goal is to help as many flight simmers as possible begin, and complete, an ATW. In the past few months, we often heard about pilots eager to fly one, but not having enough time to do the planning, etc. This is the place for you!
You will also notice this is not a race, or a circumnavigation of the globe. We plan to visit all continents, at our own different paces.
You are more than welcome to also drop us a note in our forum. We are open (and eager) to suggestions for destinations, add-on sceneries, and comments. Of course, don't hesitate to drop us a note on your favourite local beer. That's a good way to get us interested in visiting an airport (and a pub!) near you.
A final note: just like our ATW, this web site is a work in progress, and will be updated on an almost daily basis. So visit us often! A good starting point is our news section, where you'll find out about the latest developments!
Enjoy…!
