October 31, 2004,
I only stayed for one night in Washington DC. The city was bustling, just a few days before the US presidential elections. The security forces are everywhere, especially in the tourist areas.
I headed out to Washington Dulles International towards the end of the afternoon to file my flight plan and to make the necessayr preparations for an evening flight to Norfolk, Virginia. I'm expecting to head east and begin descending over Chesapeake Bay.
The sky was partly cloudy andpressure is 29.86 as I rolled towards the runway. In spite of how late it was, actually
23:40, the sky was beautifully reflecting the lights of the city, a magnificent sight. This late there was not too much traffic around, so I was quickly cleared for takeoff. For once, I didn't exceed the taxi speed limit while rolling to the runway!
After an uneventful takeoff I climbed up to 4500 feet heading 187’.
Occasionally the radio silence was broken to announce the presence of Delta, United and Blue Ridge.
There's not much to tell about the flight. It all took place in darkness, but I ran into a bit of turbulence on the way.
The soft landing in Norfolk was sweet. Have a look on the « ROUTE » and click on the link to download an interesting scenery.
It was almost one in the morning when I switched off the engine. The only thought I had was to find a room for the night before carrying on to Greensboro.
