ATW with the Six Pack

Leg 1: KHPN-KPHL

Pilot: Bryan K.

November 8th, 2004

After all the talk and the planning, it’s finally time to “get the show on the road”. Here’s my Conquest all loaded up, just before we close the doors and begin pre-start checks.

The weather forecast for tonight is nice, and I decided to fly “low and slow” to enjoy the New York City lights. A decision I dearly regretted not long after take-off! Left engine stable, and right engine starting-up. It’s time to go!

Taxi was short from the GA parking at Panorama Flight Services, to the end of runway 34. An almost ideal takeoff situation, with just a nice headwind to help us get off the ground quick.

Departure was slightly delayed, as I had to wait for American 1376 (arriving from KORD) to land. Not a big delay, and always a nice sight.

My ATW began officially at 20:35 EST, as I left the familiar grounds of KHPN. Here’s a shot as I rapidly climb to 8000’. No doubt about it, the Conquest II is the perfect fit for me to complete this crazy adventure.

A last look at KHPN, as I turn towards the TEB VOR, and currently flying over Rye Lake.

Flying over Newark Airport. Lots of traffic, both in the air, and on the New Jersey turnpike (I-95).

A beautiful night over New York City. Even the Statue of Liberty (below) is looking glorious! You could almost think this is a serene postcard moment… Of course, no one can hear what I am hearing: “Traffic alert… traffic alert…”. This flight sure kept me on my toes!

On short final to runway 9L at KPHL. I am on the glidescope, just about to take it over from the A/P to land.

Traffic is light, as I taxi to the local FBO: Millville Jet Center. They already know I am coming, and have arranged some transportation to take me “downtown”. They even helped to find me a ticket a 76’s game. That’s service!

Well, this was sure an exciting way to begin this ATW. A short 68 minute flight (gate to gate), but my ears are still ringing from all the traffic advisories!

Remember to check the complete flight report in the “logbook” section!

Next leg: another short hop, this time to KIAD (and maybe a Redskins game!)

Cheers!
