ATW with the Six Pack

Leg 3: KORF-KGSO

Pilot: Bryan K.

November 18th, 2004

After a nice lunch and some minor maintenance to my Conquest, I quickly filed my flight plan for KGSO, the next stop in the Six Pack ATW. The fog that hung over Norfolk this morning has lifted, but the cloud cover remains pretty dense, and it should be the case for our entire flight. I thanked the folks at Piedmont Aviation, and quickly received my IFR clearance.

After receiving my taxi instructions to runway 5, I was cleared for takeoff without any delays, and reached my planned cruising altitude of 15 000’ in no time. Below, a last look at KORF, as I climb to 15 000’.

As announced, the cloud cover was dense all along, but I did manage to have peek at the Roanoke river as I cruised along.

The flight was quicker than I expected, and next thing I knew, Greensboro Approach was vectoring me for an ILS approach to runway 5. During my descent, I flew right over Johnson Airport, in Archdale (N.C.).

Not much air traffic to deal when Norfolk Tower gave me “cleared to land” signal.

Full flaps, gear out, on the glidescope…. Landing should go fine. In the distance, Livewire 1773 climbing.

After landing, Greensboro Ground sent me to a busy Northeast GA parking, where I parked my Conquest and started looking for a ride to get downtown.

Cheers!
